Quotes/Proverbs

Me he lau no ke Ko'olau ke aloha.    Love is like the ends (fingertips) of the Ko'olau breeze.    Love is like a zephyr--gentle and invisible but present nevertheless.

Nā Hawaiʻi promotes Hawaiʻi and its people for those who live in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area and the Pacific Northwest. It sponsors concerts, speeches, talks, dance performances, luaus, and other cultural events featuring Hawaiian and Polynesian participants, and gives scholarships to local students.

Check our Events page for a complete listing of all local events, including Nā Hawaiʻi-sponsored events and meetings.

Fund Raising Events

Nā Hawaiʻi has several fund-raising events each year, the proceeds of which provide scholarships for area students who have demonstrated, through a formal evaluation process, an understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian culture. These events include:

Membership Events

Nā Hawaiʻi also has non-fund-raising events for its members:

Scholarships

Nā Hawaiʻi grants scholarships to worthy students every year. In its history, the club has given over $30,000 in scholarships to college students. This year's scholarship winner was determined in May, 2007. Click on both links in one of the pairs below (depending on whether or not you have Microsoft Word) to download both:

  • a scholarship form (for the student); and
  • a nomination form (for the student's teacher)

Both forms (student's and teacher's) are required.

These forms will indicate what the club seeks in its applicants. Specific scholarship entry requirements vary slightly from year to year.

Please be aware that entries closed on April 20, 2007 for the 2007 scholarships. You can, however, use these forms to see what the club will be looking for in applicants for the 2008 scholarships. Forms for the 2008 scholarships will be posted here and on the Archive page when the 2008 application period opens.

Meetings

Nā Hawaiʻi's general membership meets monthly, as does its Board of Directors. If you'd like to see when the next meetings are, check our Events page for a complete listing. Board of Directors' meetings are held at various locations. Below is a map to our General Membership meeting site, Sunset Fire Hall, in West Linn.
